Let me begin by being very honest about the fact I have tried A LOT of skincare products. Many of them I have purchased with my own money, but many others have been gifted by brands. There are a lot of products out there that work great, so it’s really just about finding find what works for you.
Anywayy, I get a lot of questions about my skincare routine so rounding it all up in a blog post. I struggled for years as a teen with acne, and have the occasional bit of adult acne now. I hope sharing my current skincare routine of my tired and true can help you find a product that works as many wonders for your skin, as it has for mine.
AM Skincare Routine
Wash Your Face – I have acne prone skin so I cleanse morning & night. My favorite cleansers are this one & this one . If you’re not acne prone, you can get away with just washing with water in the morning, but remember all those expensive serums end up being a waste if you’re applying to a dirty canvas.
Serum – NIA 10 Calming Serum –Ideal for sensitive, inflamed, dry or acne-prone skin. I use this product in the moring as a great base layer before applying makeup to calm skin, correct redness, and generally fight breakouts throughout the day.
Moisturize – We all need a simple yet elegant everyday moisturizer. You can rely on this lightweight cream to nourish and moisturize your skin without clogging pores or causing sensitivity. It works great layered under makeup.
PM Skincare Routine
Makeup Remover & Cleanser Duo – I use Day Eraser from Maelove because it’s a great two-in-one product. To use you just massage onto dry skin in circular motions, add water to emulsify into a milky cleanser, then rinse off with warm water. Some days I feel like I need to double-cleanse, so when I do, i’ll follow Day Eraser with the same cleanser as am.
Serum – I love this Glow maker Serum that gives you hydrated and brightened skin all day long. It has Vitamins C, E, Ferulic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid. Mark my words, this serum is going to be HUGE. Skincare junkies everywhere are slowly learning that this product is a dupe for a different, very expensive serum, but for only $28! I love it so much, I hope it doesn’t start selling out.
Anti Aging Tool – Once I have serum on my skin, I will apply the Aero skin tool which aids in the absorption of the serum more effectively than than applying with fingers along. This tool gently vibrates and warms when applied to skin, which helps dilate the pores and flow into the epidermis layer of your skin. In short, your products don’t just sit on top of your skin, which in the end makes them more effective at delivering all those promises on the label – reducing the appearance of fine lines, hydrating skin, and fighting other signs of premature aging.
A little Extra Love
Masking –This is my favorite clay mask for acne prone skin and this is my favorite mask to minimize pores. I typically face mask as needed and/or whenever I just feel like it – Masking Monday anyone? A little goes a long way, so both jars will last a full year, which is great for the price.
Exfoliate – I exfoliate 1x per week using these Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Daily Peel pads. It’s a two-step treatment pad with a clinical strength dose of acids, antioxidants & vitamins that lift away dead skin, while improving uneven tone & texture. These are a bit of a splurge, but the results I have seen in skin tone and texture have made them worth every penny.
Face Oil – When I know my skin really needs some extra TLC, like after a lot of travelling, this decadent face oil is such a treat. Love 31 is derived from 31 botanical extracts and vitamins to nourish, hydrate, repair and protect. It provides a rich, moisturizing finish without the oily residue common in other face oils.
Dermaplaning At Home – When I wasn’t able to get facials for months, I started dermaplaning at home about once a month. If you’re not familiar, dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment where you gently scrape the surface of your skin to remove dead skin (& peach fuzz while you’re at it). Helps with breakouts and gives you a smooth foundation application. I use this tool and a bit of this oil. Obviously, I prefer my month facial treatments with the professionals, but this has been a great alternative. *I highly encourage you to do your own research on this treatment before attempting at home.
